Feb 16 - Video Podcast
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: PRODUCE A VIDEO PODCAST TO TEACH SOMEONE ABOUT A GIVEN TOPIC.
You and a team member will be producing a 1 minute Public Service Announement that will be posted on the your wiki page. This is very similar to a video podcast!
Your team will be assigned one of the topics below. You will record your video using Photo Booth in the radio studio where it is quiet. Be sure to follow the steps listed below.
- Research your topic.
- Downlod the SCRIPT FORMAT and type a script that lasts about 1 minute. Use the TIMER to record how long your script is. Make sure both people will be talking.
- Save your script to your STUDENT FOLDER.
- Have another group read your script and give you suggestions.
- Have them type their names on the bottom of your script.
- Have Silvis Print your script.
- Use the Radio Studio to record your video using PHOTO BOOTH. Click here for a video demonstration on creating a PODCAST.
- When you are finished with you video, drag and drop your video into your STUDENT Folder.
- Upload your video to your wiki page.

February 8 - Graphic Design - T-Shirt Design
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
You will be creating an orignial design to solve the following problem: "WRMS Tech needs your help in designing a T-shirt that represents the Middle School and/or the Tech classes." Good Designs will include the word "Tech" or "Technology" or "Wood River Middle School". You may even include the year that you graduate (2016) into your designs.
After the class has completed the designs, we will vote as a class on the best one and you will print the design on to a T-shirt.
You will be responsible for bringing in your own white T-shirt.
Designs should be about half the size of a sheet of 8.5X11 paper.
PROCEDURES:
- Sketch at least 3 designs on paper.
- Have Mr. Silvis or Mr. Amato approve one of your designs
- Begin designing your T-Shirt in Microsoft Word
- Save your designs to your student folder in WRMS-TECH !!!!
- Your MAY NOT download images from a GOOGLE search. You may use www.sxc.hu to find images.

February 3 - GIS (Geographical Information System)
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: You will use Google Earth to find places on the Earth. Open the google earth intro document and save it with your user name to your student folder.

Open Google Earth and fill in the information. Make sure you save this to your student folder. Post the completed document to your Wiki page.
Jan 26 - Stress Test
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: You will be completing a stress test to determine how well you perform under stress.
This will be helpful when you are determining what jobs would may want to do in the future.
PROCEDURES:
- Form Teams of 2 people
- Save the STRESS TEST SAFETY into your folder in STUDENTS and write the safety rules on a piece of blank paper.
- Each person downloads the Stress test questions to their Folder in STUDENTS.
- Each partner asks the other person the questiosn from SIDE 1 using the timer
- Determine how long it takes him/her to answer the questions
- For each wrong answer add 10 seconds to the total time.
- Ask Silvis /Amato to help you with the Stress test machine
- Ask your partner the questions from side 2 while in the stress test and time him/her
- Add 10 seconds to the total time.
- Compare to see if your partner does better under stress or not
- On your wiki post a response to the following:
- Explaining if you do better under stress or not
- Some careers that you would be good at or not so good at
- What it was like working under stress

Jan. 20 - Testing your wind generator
After your tower is complete:
- Attach a wood top to your tower using rubberbands
- Attach a generator to your tower
- Test the 4 different blades and complete the DATA TABLE *** Save the data table with your last name, ex: silvis wind generators
- Upload the data table to your wiki page (put it in the table, see below for an example)

Copy and paste the table below onto your wiki page. Put the necessary items in the table. This table should be the only thing on your page!
Once you have all items in the table, see Mr. Silvis to get your mid-term grade.

Jan. 12th - Digital Music Creation
Background:
Since most music you listen too is copyrighted WRMS is unable to use that music in the Video Yearbook. Your task is to design /compose 2 songs in Garageband for use in the Video Yearboook.
Criteria:
Save songs to DOCUMENTS while you are working on them!
Songs must be at least 1 minute long
Songs must contain no more than 4 different sounds/loops
Songs MUST be a fast, up tempo beat (no slow songs please)
Example songs:

Grading:
When you are finished with your songs, upload both songs to your wiki page. To do this from Garageband, you will have to go to SHARE > SEND SONG TO DISK.

Jan. 5,6th - Tower Design
Background:
- You will be designing a tower for strength. Your tower must hold as much weight as possible. The Design Specifications for your tower are on the following Sketchup File. Please CLICK HERE to download the Technical Drawing of your tower specifications.
- Have Mr. Silvis Check your designs in Sketchup (upload to your wiki page)
- Get the TOWER DESIGN SHEET and draw your sides on there. EX: If you have 3 sides, you will draw 3 sides.
- Tape the TOWER DESIGN SHEET to a piece of plexiglas
- Cover the TOWER DESIGN SHEET with a piece of waxed paper
- Get balsa wood from Mr. Silvis and begin cutting and taping pieces to the TOWER DESIGN SHEET.
- After all pieces have been cut & taped to the waxed paper, glue the intersections of the balsa wood

Dec. 15th - Acrylic Plexiglas picture frames
Read all of the directions and then get safety glasses from the lab. Wait quietly around one of the tables in the lab for everyone to finish reading the directions. Once everyone has finished, MR.Silvis will give a demonstartion of the procedures and belt sander safety.
BACKGROUND:
Acrylic is a type polymer plastic. Their are two different types of plastics, thermoforming and thermosetting. Thermoforming can be heated up and molded many times. Thermosetting plastics can only be heated and formed once. Acrylic plexiglas is a type of thermoforming polymer.
SAFETY:
- Safety glasses
- No loose clothing
- General Lab Safety
- Belt Sander Safety

- Always wear eye protection
- Only one person in the safety zone at a time
- Wait until the machine completely stops before leaving the belt sander
- Always hold stock flat against table
- Never more than 1/8" space between the table and the belt
- Keep your stock continually moving - never hold stock still while sanding
- Do not sand on the edges of the belt - use the center
- Never turn the machine on when a piece of stock is touching the belt
PROCEDURES:
- Measure and square a line 3" from one end of acrylic
- Sand edges with sandpaper until smooth
- Radius corners on belt sander
- Hand sand corners until smooth
- Remove paper from un-marked side
- Place marked line on strip heater for 90 seconds. (paper side up)
- Bend approx. 180 ° away from paper
- Hold for 1 minute
- Peel remaining paper off
- Place on strip heater for 90 seconds and make final bend
- Hold for 1 minute
- Paint design on border
***You can make only 2 picture frames.
GRADING:
Take a picrture of your picture frame and post it to your wiki page. Use Photobooth to take your picture.

Dec. 15th - Finish your House Design with Google Sketchup (CADD)
When you are finished with the last Sketchup Tutorial, you will have a completed house. Please upoload this file to your wiki page.
After you have uploaded the last house tutorial to your wiki page, make sure you have all of the required assignments on your wiki page.
Begin designing a house of your own with the following:
- 3 bedrooms min.
- 2 bathrooms min.
- 1 living room

BACKGROUND: In order to build or engineer something, you must be able to take your idea(s) from conception and draw a set of Technical drawings. We will use a Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) program to enable us to communicate our ideas.

Read ALL of these directions before you start completing them.
- Click on PAGES & FILES and create a NEW FOLDER. Title the foler with your LAST NAME.
- CLICK ON HOME.
- Click on CREATE A PAGE in the upper right hand corner of this page
- Title the page with your name: Example: Jeremy Silvis
- Click on MORE OPTIONS and save the page in to YOUR FOLDER.
- On your page put the following:
- a picture of yourself from Photo Booth
- upload your picture to your folder by clicking UPLOAD FILE on the upper right corner of this page.
